Often described as one of Greece's best-kept secrets, Lefkada is renowned for its extraordinary natural beauty, combining dramatic mountain landscapes, lush olive groves, traditional villages, and some of the most spectacular beaches in the world.
The island's western coastline is famous for its breathtaking white limestone cliffs and dazzling turquoise waters, home to iconic beaches such as Porto Katsiki, Egremni Beach and Kathisma Beach. Frequently featured among Europe's most beautiful beaches, these stunning stretches of coastline offer crystal-clear waters, dramatic scenery, and unforgettable swimming experiences.
In contrast, the island's eastern and southern shores, where Villa Azzura is located, are more sheltered and tranquil, with calm bays, hidden coves, and picturesque waterfront villages. The landscape here is characterised by olive groves, cypress trees, fragrant herbs, and gentle hills that descend towards the sea, creating the quintessential Ionian setting.
Lefkada is also one of Europe's premier destinations for watersports. The reliable thermal winds around Vasiliki have made it internationally renowned for windsurfing, while the lagoon near Lefkada Town attracts kitesurfers from around the world. Sailing enthusiasts are equally drawn to the island, thanks to its calm waters and easy access to the surrounding Ionian islands.
Beyond its natural beauty, Lefkada retains a wonderfully authentic Greek character. With a permanent population of around 23,000 residents, the island has escaped the large-scale development seen elsewhere in the Mediterranean. Traditional mountain villages, family-run tavernas, local wineries, and vibrant weekly markets continue to play an important role in daily life.
Food is at the heart of the Lefkadian experience. Guests can enjoy freshly caught fish and seafood, locally produced olive oil, mountain honey, artisan cheeses, and seasonal vegetables grown in the fertile valleys of the island. Along the waterfront in nearby Sivota, visitors will find some of the island's finest tavernas and restaurants, where long lunches and relaxed evenings are enjoyed overlooking the marina and the sea.
One of Lefkada's greatest advantages is its accessibility. Unlike most Greek islands, it is connected to mainland Greece by a causeway bridge, allowing easy access from Aktion National Airport in approximately one hour. Yet despite this convenience, the island retains an exclusive and unspoilt atmosphere that continues to attract discerning travellers, sailors, and nature lovers year after year.
From Villa Azzura, guests are perfectly positioned to experience everything the island has to offer—from world-famous beaches and watersports to island-hopping adventures, mountain villages, exceptional dining, and the relaxed rhythm of Ionian life. It is a destination that combines natural beauty, authenticity, and understated luxury in equal measure.

We go here often – it very humble and simple, homecooked Greek family food and very reasonable. Very traditional place in a hilltop village. Spiros, his wife and son Fillippa are lovely. Big portions! Fterno is 15 minutes from Azzura.
VERY good modern seafood.
Must book and not far from the villa – approx. 25 minutes – can also go for lunch and moor up boat at Poros.
